The Northern Circuit Route is the longest and one of the most scenic routes on Mount Kilimanjaro. Known for its excellent acclimatization profile, remote wilderness, and high summit success rate, this route circles around the quieter northern slopes of Kilimanjaro, offering breathtaking panoramic views and fewer crowds.
This itinerary includes your arrival day before the climb, an 8-day mountain trek around the mountain, and a final overnight stay at Keys Hotel after the climb.
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide from Mi-Adventures Safari and transferred to your hotel in Moshi.
Depending on your arrival at Keys Hotel time, you can relax and enjoy views of Mount Kilimanjaro while preparing for your climb. In the evening, your mountain guide will provide a detailed briefing and equipment check.

After breakfast, you drive to Londorossi Gate for registration before continuing to the trailhead.
The trek begins through lush rainforest filled with giant trees, birds, and monkey sightings. The peaceful forest environment makes for a gentle and scenic start to the climb.
Dinner and overnight at Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m).
Distance: ~8 km
Hiking Time: 5–6 hours
Today you leave the rainforest and enter the moorland zone. The trail opens to panoramic views of Kilimanjaro and the Shira Plateau.
The changing landscapes and fresh mountain air create an exciting feeling as you continue higher.
Dinner and overnight at Shira 1 Camp (3,505m).
Distance: ~7 km
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
This is a shorter acclimatization day crossing the scenic Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus in the world.
The gradual ascent helps your body adjust while offering incredible views of Kibo Peak and surrounding valleys.
Dinner and overnight at Shira 2 Camp (3,850m).
Distance: ~14 km
Hiking Time: 6–8 hours
You ascend steadily toward Lava Tower at 4,630m, an important acclimatization point on the mountain.
After lunch and altitude adjustment, you continue toward the remote Moir Hut area located on the quieter northern side of Kilimanjaro.
The scenery becomes more dramatic and isolated, offering a true wilderness experience.

Hiking Time: 5–7 hours
Today you begin crossing the remote northern circuit of Kilimanjaro. This section is far less crowded and offers spectacular panoramic views of Kenya and the northern slopes of the mountain.
The peaceful environment and open landscapes make this one of the most unique trekking days on Kilimanjaro.
Dinner and overnight at Buffalo Camp (4,020m).

Hiking Time: 4–6 hours
The trail continues across the northern side of the mountain with beautiful alpine scenery and quiet wilderness surroundings.
Today’s hike is moderate and allows further acclimatization before the final summit approach.
Dinner and overnight at Third Cave Camp (3,870m).

Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
Today you climb toward School Hut, the final camp before your summit attempt.
The environment becomes rocky and alpine with dramatic views of Kibo Peak. After arriving at camp, you will rest, eat an early dinner, and prepare for the midnight summit climb.

Hiking Time: 10–14 hours
Around midnight, your summit attempt begins. Hiking slowly under the stars, you ascend toward Gilman’s Point before continuing to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa.
Reaching the summit at sunrise is an unforgettable achievement and one of the greatest moments of the journey.
After celebrating and taking photos, you descend through Barafu Camp and continue to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.

Distance: ~10 km
Hiking Time: 3–5 hours
After breakfast, you descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you receive your summit certificates and celebrate your success.
You will then transfer back to Moshi for relaxation and a well-deserved rest.
